It's been years since The Basement heard any talk of a Lethal Weapon reboot. To be honest, we'd hoped the project was ded. D-E-D. As in dead. However, the latest rumour out of Hollywood suggests otherwise.
Instead, it sounds like Thor's Chris Hemsworth has been offered the lead in what doesn't sound so much like a remake, but a half-assed continuation of the series.
The plot centres on the desires of an older cop's son to join the police force. Logic dictates the older cop would be Mel Gibson's Riggs, and Hemsworth would play his son.
I'm getting too old for this shit.
The original series' producer, Joel Silver, is still on board, as is creator Shane Black, but Will Beall (The Gangster Squad) wrote the script. Justin Lin, who helmed the last few Fast & Furious movies, is slated to direct.
Keep in mind this is a rumour. Personally, a Lethal Weapon movie isn't a Lethal Weapon movie without Gibson and Danny Glover as Riggs and Murtaugh. If the flick isn't about them, then I have no desire to see it.
