Of all the 80s horror flicks I missed growing up, Fred Dekker's Night of the Creeps is the one I'd been most dying to see. I have no idea why. It just felt right. Thank Jebus Basement contributor Matt Bellamy owns the flick, and was willing to lend it to me. Did Night of the Creeps meet my expectations? Stick with me!
Alien brain parasites, entering humans through the mouth, turn their host into a killing zombie. Some teenagers start to fight against them.
Yeah, that's the worst synopsis the IMDb has ever come up with. Fortunately Dekker's movie is far better.
Bellamy says this is his favourite cheesy horror movie, and I totally get it. This flick is cheesy in all the right ways. It's a cult classic from the first frame to the last, mixing 50s sci-fi, slasher movies, zombie flicks and teen comedy. All blended together as only a mad genius like Dekker can.
There's gore, one liners, practical effects and a lot of slimy monsters. There's so much here that's good, viewers can't go wrong. Toss in the awesomeness that is Tom Atkins and Jill Whitlow's perfect 80s hottie (gotta love a hot chick with a flamethrower) and you've got a winner.
I loved the hell out of Night of the Creeps, and will watch it again and again. The world needs more fun horror movies like this.
