From the makers of Paranormal Activity, Insidious and Sinister comes this latest exercise in creepy goings on, this time with an extraterrestrial twist. Are aliens as scary as ghosts? Let's find out.
As the Barret family's peaceful suburban life is rocked by an escalating series of disturbing events, they come to learn that a terrifying and deadly force is after them.
This is the weakest of the Blumhouse Productions films, which means it's still a lot better than most mainstream horror movies. The first two acts are solid, with decent scares and a couple of shorts shitting moments. And Keri Russell. Can't forget Keri Russell. Dark Skies works best when you don't know aliens are to blame.
Shit falls apart during the final 20 minutes. Maybe it's just me, but aliens aren't scary. Try and take my kid and I'll feed you the business end of my baseball bat and kick your ass back to the Orion Constellation. Ghosts on the other hand . . . Well, they're not solid. Harder to kick their ass.
Don't get me wrong; this is a decent watch with a good cast and some nice production design. Had the final act delivered, this would rate a Good. As it stands, I gotta give it a Bad. Scary yes. Satisfying no.
